Melamine

Melamine-formaldehyde resins are synthetic resins, which are obtained by the polycondensation of melamine and formaldehyde. They belong to the group of aminoplastics. Their characteristics include high hardness, scratch resistance, temperature resistance, and good flexural strength. Melamine-formaldehyde resins are particularly used as binders and crosslinkers.

Industries

Melamine-formaldehyde resins are used in the leather industry, textile industry and paper industry. They are used mainly as raw material for the production of melamine resins, which are used as glue and impregnating resins. Among other things, resin glues are used for the manufacture of particle board. As an impregnating resin, melamine resin is used for the impregnation and bonding of decorative papers on substrates such as chipboard. The resulting surface is characterized by good moisture resistance and scratch resistance. In addition, melamine is used as flame retardant additive in paints and coatings.
